Baseball #10

Daniel Gould to Jim Driscoll

Hi JD;

Castro had two hits on both Tuesday and Wednesday. He has 99 hits in 74 games. Batting .322.

According to the Probability Factor in Baseball Physics whatever plummeted down must inversely plummeted up...Or something like that.

Hi JD;

Hmmmm...Starlin's star continues to plummeted upward in an amazing trajectory...He had three hits on Friday; made an outstanding play and ended the day with .322.

On the Cubbies Q&A section there was this question: Who was the youngest player/players to have 200 hits in a season? If you get this one wrong...Well, wet your pants.

Perhaps I should give you a choice of money or vintage film posters. There is a shop here that specializes in film posters/books/DVDs. At the moment they have a nice selection of original Belgium posters for Hollywood films of the 50s from the period. For what I owe you I could get about two. If interested, let me know and I will send you a list of what is available.

Sincerely;

Dan

Hi JD;

Its "Momma?" not "Mama?" Damn them Swedes they can't get anything right.

I see you made no attempt to guess at who were the two youngest players to get 200 hits in a season. Once again, this was sort of a trick question. They both played for the same team, but at different times. Give up? Cobb and Kaline. Both were 20 years old.

Sincerely;

SORRY.  I GOT SIDETRACKED.   I WAS THINKING ABOUT KALINE WHEN THE Q WAS INITIALLY POSED,

IE:.............WHILE I WAS STILL THINKING ABOUT IT.     SENIOR MOMENT!

I WOULD NOT HAVE GUESSED COBB......BUT SHOULD HAVE.  I READ HIS STORY IN THE FORM OF A NOVEL,

AND THAT WASN'T MENTIONED IN IT.  >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>JD

Hi JD;

Castro had three hits yesterday. He now has had three hits or more in 18 games this season---best in the National league; average now at .309. Oh, yeah, the Cubs have won four in a row their longest winning streak of the year with a 1-0 victory over the Pirates...Nearly forgot, the one run came on a home run by that kid Castro in the eight. Fancy that!

Sincerely;

Dan

Hi JD;

Let see, your prediction is that come 1st October Star-Baby Castro will be hitting "in the 200s." Everything is possible of course, but yesterday, he again went three for four and raised his average to 312. Oh, yeah, he leads the National League in hits.

We'll talk more about this on the 2nd of October...

Sincerely;

Hi JD;

I don't know whether to admire your ability to indure schlock or the suggest psychiatric help. Either way...it is fun reading. And, George Nader, wasn't he Groucho's announcer on "You Bet Your Life;" which reminds me I am still pondering over whose buried in Grant's Tomb...Maybe if I Google...

A quote from the Cubs' website: "Last week, Castro, 21, led the Majors with 17 hits, 10 runs scored and 25 total bases. He added a .758 slugging percentage, clubbed two homers, drove in seven runs and hit safely in seven games." For all this he was named National League player of the week. His cohort, Barney, is batting only .288; and for someone more than halfway through his rookie season, that ain't bad.

Thought you would like to know...

Sincerely;

Dan
