The Visionary Art of Dario Poli

“Quo Vadis”, was painted by Dario Poli on a restaurant wall in Leicester England, at the young age of 15 without any previous official art education or studies in his life, but he felt compelled to express his turbulent emotions in a mural (much larger than the segment above) depicting his own apocalyptic vision of the world to come.

He created all his works alone and by his own inspirational efforts that eventually resulted in interest from The Academia of Art in Florence Italy.  This particular painting was published decades later, in books on “Nostradamus” and various magazines in Europe, including the UK , Germany, The Netherlands, Spain, the X Magazine and the Essential in Marbella.

Unique style

The unique style of Dario Poli’s art is arresting in its demonstrations of technical skills, it’s great imaginative power and in its profound insights into the human condition. Born in Scotland of an Italian father he combines the analytical brain of his Tuscan father with the warmth of his mother from Scotland. A good Scottish education then living in England for many years expanded his cultural experiences and understanding.

Dario grew up with an inquisitive mind and a deep need to understand the world around him and beyond, developed an interest in Astrology. Here is an early sketch he created age 16, later published in Studio Editions Ltd England 1995 and Karl Muller Verlag 1995. See image 4.

Other wordly

His drawings and paintings are often “other worldly”. Classical allusion and haunting restraint together with suggestions of a more romantic mood work an unusual alchemy. The viewer is enchanted. The labyrinthine intricacies of trees and roots suffocate the sensuous curves of decaying stone. Life relentlessly proliferates while beauty decays. Yet the tangle of life itself is awe inspiring in its own beauty and complexity. Dario Poli’s work attests to this through its own visionary quality and technical brilliance.

His style of creative work alters depending on the character of the work inspiring him. Painting nr. 7 attest to this. 

Nostradamus

Dario has illustrated three books on Nostradamus and has co-written the music to Nostradamus 1999 which received some national radio plays when it first was released.

Like poetry his work is supremely and harmoniously satisfying. It may arouse debate; It may inspire fear. More often it will give joy. Above all it is a very powerful representation of the way at some moments Dario Poli sees the world.
